REALA ACE

Faithful colour with a firm backbone.

Short answer

REALA ACE is Fujifilm’s twentieth film simulation, introduced with the GFX100 II in 2023. It reproduces colour faithfully like PROVIA but applies a harder tone curve, giving more contrast without changing hues. It suits portraits and everyday shooting equally.

REALA ACE is named after Fujicolor Superia Reala Ace 100, a print film discontinued years ago. Fujifilm describes it as faithful colour reproduction combined with hard tonality — a plain description that hides how useful the combination turns out to be.

REALA ACE versus PROVIA

The hues are close. What differs is the tone curve: REALA ACE holds shadows down and rolls highlights off more firmly, so pictures have more shape straight out of camera.

The practical result is that PROVIA looks correct and REALA ACE looks finished. On a portrait in flat window light, PROVIA gives you an accurate record and REALA ACE gives you something you would post without touching.

Where it fits

REALA ACE is the best all-day simulation on cameras that have it. Skin tones stay true, colour is not exaggerated, and there is enough contrast that flat light does not ruin the frame.

It is particularly good for events and travel, where you shoot everything from a bright plaza to a dim interior in the same hour and cannot keep changing profiles.

Which cameras have it

REALA ACE debuted on the GFX100 II in 2023 and reached the X Series with the X100VI. It is now on the X-M5, X-E5, X-T30 III, X half and the newer GFX bodies.

It did not arrive on the X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S or X-S20, which stop at nineteen simulations. Firmware has not added it to those bodies, and the difference is in the processing pipeline rather than a menu switch.

Common questions

Can I add REALA ACE to my X-T5 with a firmware update?

No. Fujifilm has not released it for the X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S or X-S20. Those cameras have nineteen simulations and that is where they stay.

What was the real Reala Ace film?

Fujicolor Superia Reala Ace 100 was a colour print film known for accurate colour under mixed lighting. It was discontinued, which is why the name was free to reuse.
