Reala Ace Daily

The recipe for when you do not know what you are shooting.

Short answer

This is a deliberately restrained REALA ACE recipe: accurate colour, a touch more saturation and clarity, and no white balance shift. It is designed to be the setting you leave the camera on when the day could go anywhere.

Most recipes have an opinion. This one does not, and that is the point. On a day where you will shoot a bright plaza, a dark restaurant and a person by a window within two hours, a strong look is a liability.

Why there is no white balance shift

Every shift is a bet on the light. R +2 helps in cool shade and hurts under tungsten. This recipe leaves the shift at zero so auto white balance can do its job across every situation you walk into.

REALA ACE is the right simulation for that because it reproduces colour faithfully. It has a firmer tone curve than PROVIA, so photographs still have shape, but it does not tint anything.

The small additions

Colour +1 and Clarity +1 are the only real changes, and they exist to make files look finished on a phone screen. Highlight −1 with DR200 protects skies, which is the one failure mode this recipe would otherwise have.

If you shoot RAW alongside, this is also the best preview profile in the lineup: what you see is close to what you will edit.

Common questions

My camera does not have REALA ACE. What is the closest?

PROVIA with Colour +1, Clarity +1 and Highlight −1 gets close in hue. The tone curve is softer, so add Shadow −1 if you want the same firmness.

Is this too boring?

On its own, slightly. It is meant as the base you return to, with a stronger recipe in another custom slot for when a scene deserves one.
