Short answer
The GFX 50R is a rangefinder-shaped medium format camera: 51.4MP, a corner viewfinder, no in-body stabilisation and 775g. It has 15 film simulations and is the flattest medium format body Fujifilm has made.
Medium format cameras are supposed to be large blocks with vertical grips. The GFX 50R is a flat slab with the viewfinder in the corner, 66mm deep, and it handles like an oversized X-E body rather than a studio tool.

Why the shape matters
The corner viewfinder and flat body change how you use medium format. You can walk with a 50R around your neck in a way you cannot with a GFX100, and the 63mm f/2.8 lens balances properly on it.
There is no stabilisation, so plan on faster shutter speeds or a tripod. The 3 fps burst and contrast-detect autofocus are the same limits as every 51.4MP GFX.
Buying one now
Used prices are well below the GFX50S II, and the sensor is the same. What you give up is the newer body, the stabiliser and the newer film simulations — the 50R has 15, without Classic Negative.
For a slow, deliberate photographer who wants medium format files and a small body, it remains a compelling and unusual choice.

Verdict

Does the GFX 50R have IBIS?
No. Stabilisation arrived on the GFX100 and GFX50S II. Use faster shutter speeds or a tripod.
GFX 50R or GFX50S II?
The 50S II adds stabilisation, newer simulations and better ergonomics for zooms. The 50R is flatter, lighter and more distinctive.
