Short answer
The X-E2 is a 16.3MP X-Trans II rangefinder-style camera from 2013. Firmware version 4.00 added Classic Chrome and a rebuilt autofocus system years after launch, which is why it still has 11 film simulations.
The X-E2 is the clearest example of Fujifilm’s habit of updating cameras long after they were sold. Firmware 4.00, released in 2015, gave two-year-old bodies Classic Chrome, a faster autofocus system and a new interface for free.

The firmware that changed it
Version 4.00 brought the autofocus system from the newer X-T1, added Classic Chrome, and reworked the manual focus aids. Owners describe it as getting a new camera in the post.
If you buy an X-E2, check the firmware version first. An un-updated body is missing Classic Chrome and is noticeably slower to focus.
Buying one now
These are among the cheapest interchangeable-lens Fujifilm cameras you can find. With a 27mm pancake the whole kit is pocketable and costs less than a modern lens.
Expect 2013 autofocus, a fixed screen and no ACROS. Expect very likeable colour.
