Short answer
The X-A3 is an entry-level Fujifilm with a 24.2MP Bayer sensor and a screen that flips 180° upward for selfies. It has 11 film simulations, contrast-detect autofocus only and 1080p video.
The X-A3 doubled the resolution of the X-A2 and added a touchscreen that flips all the way up. It was designed for people photographing themselves and their friends, and it does that well.

The flip screen
The 3.0-inch touchscreen rotates 180 degrees upward, which puts it above the camera rather than behind it. There is an eye-detection mode and a portrait enhancer that smooths skin, both aimed at the same use.
Compared with a phone at the time, the combination of an APS-C sensor and interchangeable lenses was a real step up in image quality.
The autofocus caveat
Contrast-detect only. The camera focuses by moving the lens until the image looks sharpest, which takes time and hunts in low light. The X-A5 two years later fixed this with phase detection.
If you are choosing between them used, the X-A5 is worth the difference for that alone.

Verdict
The X-A3 is a cheap way into Fujifilm colour if you are patient with autofocus. The X-A5 is the better buy if the prices are close.

Common questions
Does the X-A3 have X-Trans?
No. Like all X-A cameras it uses a Bayer sensor. The colour simulations are the same, but ACROS is not available.
Is the autofocus really that slow?
In good light it is acceptable. Indoors and at dusk it hunts noticeably.
