X-E5 vs X100VI
The same insides, one with a lens attached for good.
Short answer
The X-E5 and X100VI use the same 40.2MP sensor, the same processor and the same twenty film simulations. The X100VI has a fixed 35mm-equivalent f/2 lens, a leaf shutter and a hybrid optical viewfinder. The X-E5 takes any X-mount lens and has an electronic viewfinder only.

Which one to buy
If 35mm equivalent is the focal length you already think in, buy the X100VI: the leaf shutter syncs flash at any speed, the optical viewfinder shows you outside the frame, and a camera with no decisions gets carried more. If you own X-mount lenses, or shoot wider and longer than 35mm, the X-E5 gives you the same image quality with the whole system attached — and you can actually find one in stock.
Common questions
Is the image quality identical?
From the sensor, yes. The lens differs, so the rendering does — but neither has an advantage in file quality.
Which is smaller?
The X-E5 body is thinner at 39.1mm, but with any lens attached the X100VI is the more compact package.
